Miner 2049, released either late 1982 or early 1983 according to when magazine reviews start appearing, ushered in an era of high quality home computer platform games. Alongside home clones of games like Space Panic, Burgertime, and Donkey Kong was Miner 2049, which, well, was still very much along the lines of Donkey Kong. Standout features were thoughtful level design and a large number of levels for the time (10 whole levels!). It would go on to inspire the British hit Manic Miner.
Walk over all sections of the platforms to turn them solid before the timer at the top of the screen runs out. Collecting items will temporarily allow you to kill enemies. There are 10 stages to complete with unique mechanics.
For stage 10, load the cannon with TNT to shoot to higher levels. You shoot however many levels up as TNT cannisters you load (e.g. 3 TNT cannisters shoots you to the third level).
You can press a number key on the title screen (1, 2, 3…) to start on a different “Zone”, which are increased difficulty levels.
