Jump Bug is not the most directly influential platformer in this list. However, in the world before anyone knew what a side-scrolling platformer was it accidentally became the first one. With both horizontal and vertical scrolling, this game was miles ahead of its time. The screen auto-scrolls and the buggy even auto-jumps, but maneuvering through the building tops and mountains gives an unmistakable glimpse into the future where Mario would be jumping on mushroom tops and the Doodle Jump guy would be weaving through platforms on phones.
The screen auto-scrolls and the bug auto-jumps. All you do is move and shoot. Pick up items, bounce on certain platforms, and defeat enemies for score.
