This challenge course covers the most influential, popular, and sophisticated platform games from the primordial roots up through 1985, when Super Mario Bros. set the gold standard for the genre going forward. Platform games were one of the most important genres of the 80s and 90s, as many companies raced to imitate Nintendo’s hugely successful Mario games from Donkey Kong all the way up through Super Mario 64. These early 80s games show the beginnings of the genre, where single screen stages of ladders and spelunking themes ruled.
